Education Groups.

We love to meet other school students! We hope to welcome you and your school to the world’s largest classroom right here in the middle of Australia.

A visit to Alice Springs School of the Air helps teachers and students address the ethical understandings contained in the General Capabilities section of the Australian Curriculum. It provides an opportunity to experience a world thousands of kilometres from their own, not just literally but culturally. It provides an insight into a world dominated by isolation and allows visiting students to make connections between their own worlds and the worlds of others. It provides an opportunity to develop abilities to communicate and empathise with others and to analyse intercultural experiences critically. It offers opportunities for them to consider their own beliefs and attitudes in a new light, and so gain insight into themselves and others.

School Group opening hours

We are open from 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday, and the last tour booking available each day is at 2:30pm.  On weekends and public holidays, we are open from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. We will always try to open for larger groups, so if you require a time slot outside our regular opening hours please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your group.  Please note that a surcharge may apply for opening outside regular hours (rates are published on our Group Rate sheet which is available upon request).

Please reconfirm your group numbers and nationality of visitors at least 48 hours prior to arrival.  If possible, please provide the phone number of your tour guide/leader or driver.

School Group admission fees

Group rates are available for a party of 6 or more people, provided the visit is booked in advance and payment is made in one transaction, either in advance or, if pre-approved, on the day. Our Group Rate sheet is available upon request.

As a guide, admission fees for independent travellers are:

Adults:  $12.00

Child (5 - 16 years):  $9.00

We welcome one tour leader/teacher per group Free of Charge (FOC), and all coach drivers and tour cooks are also FOC. The teacher to student ration is 1:10 (or part thereof). Additional teachers will be admitted at the student rate.  Additional FOC admissions may be applied for by written request.

Our guides are English speaking however our film can be subtitled in English, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Dutch and English and our information sheets are available in the same languages as well as Danish, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish and Hebrew.  Please contact us at least 48-hours prior to arrival to confirm groups numbers and advise the nationality of the group.  We shall ensure that the filmed is played with the correct subtitled language and an Information Sheet in the language is available for each visitor.  For foreign language-speaking groups with a translator (who wishes to translate our guide’s presentation) we recommend allowing 60 minutes for your visit.

School Group cancellations

We understand that the unexpected can happen, especially in the outback.  We have developed our cancellation policy to best allow for late notice group cancellations:

No cancellation fee will be charged if booking is cancelled more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time.

50% of the entry fee (based on the reconfirmed group number) will be charged if booking is cancelled between 24 and 8 hours prior to the scheduled time.

100% of the entry fee (based on the reconfirmed group number) will be charged if booking is cancelled within 8 hours of the scheduled time. This is included if the group fails to show.

Facilitating daily contact between students, home tutors and teachers,
the school has always strived to find new and better ways of enriching the education of
Australia’s most remote children.
